I moved to Ithaca when I was single because I struggled with anxiety and depression but art, meditation, therapy and hiking helped. I'd heard Ithaca had a wealth of these things.
I love all forms of art-making and storytelling. I have lots of projects mid-finished and I’m often reading multiple books. I love themes that explore the magic of transformation & connection and the process of learning to be more ourselves; more authentic & empowered. I've learned that creativity – art and storytelling- is a vital part of that process.
Good stories have conflict, darkness and unexpected turns.
So, of course, yours does too.
But we can feel a bit lost when we don't know what to do with all that dark material.
I'm passionate about passing the secret powers of Art Therapy on to people who feel insecure on their own and in relationships. Not having a long term relationship until I was in my late twenties, I know what it’s like to struggle with low self-esteem; to long for and be afraid of intimacy and to feel left behind by your peers as they couple off.
In therapy I can help you explore places you’ve rejected or been afraid of because I've learned to soothe and employ the fear that used to rule over me. You can do it, too. & You can do it by using the creativity you have & enhancing it even more. Your unique qualities- the ones you love & the ones you hate- are our allies in Art Therapy. You can befriend the beast. You can bravely navigate the dark wood and keep yourself good company while you do. You can come out the other side better than before.
Learning to be curious and accepting of yourself gives you the skills to do it with others.
And that’s BOUND to lead to some falling in love. (Maybe even, respectfully, with your own self.) ;)

Services
Adults
I offer private counseling using talk and/or art therapy.
Curious but wary about using art materials? You have a lot of company.
We have many wounds from the cultural idea that things (we) should look a certain way. Art Therapy isn't about making something nice to hang up: It's about making things that represent the REAL YOU - what you feel, what you've been through & what you want. The Art Therapy Studio is a place to begin to uncover limiting beliefs & plot the course of your own unique path. Not being sure and lack of confidence are welcome, here. You can grow your courage by taking small courageous steps in a supportive atmosphere.
As a therapist, my first job is to attend to the connection between us, ensuring you feel seen, heard & respected.
I'm a great fit if you are looking to:
Increase your emotional & relational intelligence and skills; Discover authenticity & self-compassion; Get organizational & collaborative support for non-traditional employment; Find meaning through transitions (including grieving); Envision & enact integration of who you are into how you live your life.
*Use of art materials is never required. With a dual degree in counseling psychology and art therapy, I'm experienced and comfortable with a wide range of approaches in either.*

Teens and their families
Young people often find it difficult to express themselves in a clinical setting. Using art materials sparks enthusiasm, feels "cool" ;) and can be less threatening. I can sit next to a teen, quietly doing my own thing, asking nothing of them but to use some media & they're over there communicating worlds. :) It's Lovely.
The Art Therapy Studio is a colorful, welcoming space that is set up to make expression enticing. This means your teen is met where they feel comfortable and competent; which translates to a bright willingness to engage.
Adolescents face a unique set of needs based on the major physical and psychological tasks that take place at this age of growth. Developmentally appropriate self-expression is encouraged to help them understand and explore their behavioral issues and emerging identities through the art making process. I facilitate a space where teens are welcome to explore parts of themselves that might be harder to express at school or at home. I support a teen's strong need for healthy expression of independence and self.
I've worked with teens consistently since my very first internship, when I first fell in love with people of that age. That's 15 years of experience overall; 5 of which were specialized in working with only teens. I am truly honored by building a trusting, working relationship with them.
